In addition to improving care by quickly and conveniently transmitting critical image data, the BEAM network also eliminates the inefficiencies of transfers on CD and the technical challenges associated with using VPN.“With the ability to electronically send full-resolution imaging studies directly from neighbor island hospitals to specialists at our primary trauma center in Honolulu, the trauma care teams are better equipped to assess the patient’s condition, determine if a transfer is required and administer treatment immediately upon the patient’s arrival,” commented Linda Rosen, M.D., M.P.H., Chief, Emergency Medical Services and Injury Prevention Systems Branch at the Hawaii Department of Health. “In the past, trauma teams would wait for the patient to arrive and view images from an accompanying CD or re-image the patient before taking action.
