Calgary Scientific and OneMedNet unite at SIIM 2012

Courtesy of Calgary Scientific.Calgary Scientific and OneMedNet are partnering up at SIIM 2012, June 7 to 9 to show how healthcare providers can access a whole patient picture drawing upon imaging data and patient records (both internal and external to a facility) without the traditional delays of sending of CD’s, missing data or data security risks. The two companies are showing an integration prototype of BEAM™ by OneMedNet and Calgary Scientific’s ResolutionMD™.

To make important decisions with regard to health, it is imperative that physicians and healthcare specialists have a whole picture of the patient’s health and health data.Patient records that exist in disparate locations can be very difficult to retrieve, often resulting in patients being rescanned (potentially resulting in excess radiation), or worse, treatment decisions made in the absence of all relevant priors.

Often patients can retrieve their exams in the form of a CD and transport them to another location, but this can be both costly and unreliable if a patient misplaces the CD or does not have it on-hand when it is needed most. Unencrypted CDs also pose potential risks to security and patient privacy.OneMedNet has developed BEAM, a product that will eliminate the need for rescanning or creation and transport of CDs. With BEAM, facilities can manage their data easily through a web interface, pushing or requesting data from other facilities – even those that they may not be associated with.ResolutionMD is now integrated with the BEAM product to aid in the data management for its users. Users will have the option to launch the BEAM application from either a study browser or collaboration session. So how does the BEAM + ResolutionMD integration create a new model of patient data access:

  • Two physicians, one at a remote rural facility and one at a larger urban healthcare center use ResolutionMD to review a patient’s images and health record and collaborate to see if a patient needs to be and can be transported to that facility.
  • They decide the patient should be transported to the urban healthcare center for treatment.
  • The physician at the rural hospital clicks the BEAM Push Study button, and the complete study of the patient is securely transferred from ResolutionMD to the urban hospital.
  • Once a study is transferred through BEAM into the urban hospital’s PACS, the physician and assisting specialists taking over the patient’s care have access to the complete patient study and are able to launch ResolutionMD for further image and data analysis and diagnostic collaboration among a treatment team, and even with the patient.
  • Other use cases where this integrated functionality could be extended to include: Virtual Tumor Boards where the participants could be sent the reviewed data for their own records, teaching facilities where there are grand rounds, cases could be pushed into the teaching PACS for later review.

This integrated demo will show attendees at SIIM how easy it is to increase level of care by giving physicians all of the information they need to make informed decisions on patient treatment and care.
